As part of Aquatic Contracting_s (AC) ongoing wetland restoration efforts on Sauvie Island we were contracted by the Columbia River Estuary Study Taskforce (CREST) to restore and enhance the Crane-Domeyer wetland complex. Located in a remote location on the Island, the project presented some logistical challenges and AC utilized both land and water-based equipment to deliver materials, equipment and fuel to the site. Restoration efforts included the excavation of nearly 40,000 cubic yards of material to restore the wetland areas to historical conditions along with the construction of several inlet and connector channels to restore hydraulic functions. Additionally, large wood was installed to improve habitat for fish and wildlife. After construction, AC completed erosion control, site stabilization, planting, and seeding of the site.
