Silverdale Trails Wetland Mitigation - Aquatic Contracting

Silverdale, WA

Aquatic Contracting (AC) was awarded the construction of two types of wetland mitigation, which were prescribed for offsetting the impacts of a large, retail shopping center development project in Silverdale, Washington. Two acres of new wetlands were created and 6 acres of existing wetlands were enhanced. AC conducted all mass excavation, grading, and the entire wetland creation area was lined with bentonite for water retention prior to finish grading. AC then capped the bentonite layer with 9_ of topsoil and a compost and water filtration medium. Large woody debris structures and large vertical snags were placed throughout the site. Prior to completion, highway storm drains in the immediate vicinity were plumbed into the wetland in order to reduce contamination through bioremediation. Two temporary bridges were used to facilitate construction access, and public access through the site on a network of public walking trails was managed throughout construction. AC also reconstructed 250 feet of soft walking trails connecting to the wetland site.
